Schweigen nach dem Treffen der P5+1 zum weiteren Vorgehen gegenüber dem Iran gestern in Berlin. Die Diskussion über eine einheitliche Haltung ist zu sensibel, um allzu viel an die Öffentlichkeit dringen zu lassen.

… sagte im Anschluss der Sprecher des US State Departments Sean McCormick.

Aber nicht alle hielten sich an das Schweigegelübde. AFP fand gleich zwei Diplomaten, die doch reden wollten.

The diplomat, who asked not to be named due to the sensitivity of the issue, said the Berlin talks were “actually quite a productive meeting. There was common analysis on where we were.”

Ich wäre bereit, eine nicht unerhebliche Summe darauf zu wetten, dass es sich hierbei um einen amerikanischen Diplomat handelte.

The diplomat said that all six nations including China and Russia had a “commitment to the implementation of the resolution”.

Nun, ist jemand bereit dagegen zu halten?

Another diplomat close to the talks said that US Under Secretary of State Nicholas Burns had “made a strong case for sanctions,” saying the Security Council should take such action by the end of the month.

“But the Russians and Chinese want to go a bit slower,” the diplomat said.

Specific measures were discussed from a list of graduated sanctions that begin with symbolic gestures such as limiting travel by Iranian nuclear scientists and progress towards widespread international economic bans.

Hier würde ich mein Geld auf “britischer Diplomat” setzen.

Reuters fand einen gesprächsbereiten Diplomaten, der nur als „senior European Union diplomat” identifiziert wird.

“There was a common analysis on where we were,” said a senior European Union diplomat, speaking on condition of anonymity. The International Atomic Energy Agency, he said, “made clear that Iran has not met the requirements of the Security Council and the IAEA.”

Aber:

“EU states don’t really want sanctions but now they realize they’re trapped by the Security Council resolution. There isn’t likely to be a consensus within Germany’s government, same for France,” said another EU diplomat, adding that Britain would probably continue to support sanctions.

Nach außen sind sich offensichtlich alle einig, intern sieht es wohl ein wenig anders aus.
