Die Gespräche zwischen den USA und dem Iran über die Lage im Irak sollen am 28. Mai in Bagdad stattfinden, gab heute der iranische Außenminister Manouchehr Mottaki bekannt.

Manouchehr Mottaki said the negotiations would be exclusively about Iraq and that a first meeting in the presence of Iraqi officials would try to set a more detailed agenda.

“Nothing but Iraq is on the agenda,” he told reporters in Islamabad, where he has been attending a ministerial meeting of the Organization of the Islamic Conference. (AP)

Irak und nur Irak als Thema ist bekannt, aber Mottaki sagte auch ein paar Dinge, die die Vermutung schüren, dass es durchaus ein klein wenig mehr sein darf.

He declined to be more specific about items that might be on the agenda, but said the talks would be an opportunity for Iran to move into a “whole new era in its relationship with Iraq.”

Er sagte “ganze neue Ära der Beziehungen mit dem Irak“, aber vielleicht meinte er doch eher die USA.

Auch seine Kritik an der US Präsenz im Irak wich ein wenig von den sonst üblichen Formeln ab.

“We do believe that a correct approach to Iraq should look to both points, or both areas of the difficulty. Terrorists say that ‘we are doing this because of the foreign forces,’ and the foreign forces saying that ‘we are here because of the terrorist groups,’” he said.

Bislang war aus Teheran nur zu hören, dass allein die USA an all dem Chaos Schuld seien. Nun ist man immerhin bereit zuzugestehen, dass auch „Terroristen” eine Rolle spielen.
