Der stellvertretende irakische Premierminister Bahram Saleh ist in Teheran und Journalisten stellen Fragen. Beispielsweise nach den Aussichten für ein zweites amerikanisch-iranisches Treffen zur Situation im Irak. Schließlich hatten beide Seiten nach der ersten Runde am 28. Mai in Bagdad die Möglichkeit angedeutet, den Kontakt fortzusetzen.

Ali Larijani, Sekretär des Nationalen Sicherheitsrates, Chefunterhändler in der Nuklearfrage und ein Mann, der gerne seine Karten bedeckt hält, gab sich vorsichtig.

Larijani told reporters in a joint press conference with the visiting Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister Barham Saleh that the ongoing talks between Iran and US on Iraq security should not be dealt as media show.

“Talks has its own diplomatic process along with its special logic.”

Larijani said that Iran will evaluate the results of the first round of talks with US on Iraq to decide on kicking off the second round. (IRNA1)

Der iranische Botschafter in Bagdad, Hassan Kazemi Ghomi, der auch beim ersten Gespräch US Botschafter Ryan Crocker gegenüber gesessen hatte, war da weit auskunftsfreudiger. Nach seinen Worten ist das zweite Gespräch so gut wie sicher.

“Iran-U.S. talks date depends on an invitation by Maliki’s government. The meeting between Iranian and U.S. envoys will most probably be held in near future,” Kazemi Ghomi told the reporters.

He further added that if Iran was called for talks, it would study the request with a positive approach and announce its view on the new round of talks.

“The level of the talks is reliant on the consisting issues. Both sides have initially agreed on this point. But if issues other than Iraq is to be stated, Iranian officials will study it and appoint the level of the talks,” he said. (ISNA)

Ghomi hat auch ein anderes Thema im Sinn, über das seiner Ansicht nach unbedingt gesprochen werden muss:

He said that since the Iranian diplomats have been kidnapped in Iraqi territory and in the meantime the Iraqi officials would also attend the meeting, the issue would absolutely be among topics to be discussed between the parties. (IRNA2)

Auf dieser Ebene dürften die Gespräche allerdings nicht sehr weit kommen.
